What Pilates Teaches You About Fear

We used to think fear was scary, until Pilates taught us to use fear as a guidance. We’ll tell you why. In Pilates, you learn that:

  1. Fear of failure is okay
    • In Pilates, mistakes is part of process. Progress is built on imperfection. You learn to embrace mistakes as part of growth.
  2. Face the Unknown
    • Trying new movements or sequences is a necessary step forward in Pilates. Same goes with life.
  3. Building courage through strength
    • Physical strength can foster inner courage and vice versa. Pilates helps you feel capable taking on challenges beyond the Studio.
  4. Fear of judgment is okay
    • You focus on your own body and progress in Pilates. You learn that being afraid of judgment is okay, but don’t let it impact your performance or growth.
  5. Fear of letting go is okay
    • Pilates encourages the release of control, tension, and self-doubt. In Pilates and in life, being afraid to let go is fine but letting go can be so empowering.
  6. Fear of not being enough is okay
    • In Pilates, showing up is enough. Not being enough is irrelevant. You get to define your ‘enough’ in your Pilates journey and learning.
  7. Transform fear into focus
    • Pilates teaches you to channel fear into awareness with mindfulness and remain grounded in the present moment.
  8. Embrace fear as a teacher
    • What you fear is a guide to your strengths and growth areas. Pilates helps you see that fear is not an enemy but a teacher.
